    Interesting. My '84 500SEL (US market) has the same system, but no recirc button. I guess that feature was added later. My 40-year-old W126 is still running the original R-12 refrigerant. Blows 20F out the vents! Unfortunately, the compressor recently started weeping a bit of mineral oil, so an R134a conversion is likely in my future.

    The Custom Coupe is a genuinely lovely car- you are lucky --- the story of that car of mine in the video had a strange outcome as shortly after the video was posted, a man contacted me who had a possible terminal illness and wanted to buy it off me - he offered a good price and his predicament was sad, so I sold it on to him and to this day think I did the right thing but regret that I never really had the chance to enjoy all the work . -- thanks for the comment

      Tragic event - these horrific personal accounts truly bring the severe and agonising consequences of war into focus - while I resist the moves towards war I honour with great respect those who fought for the life we enjoy today - thanks for the comment

    My grandpa was born a couple years after your dad but he was from a ukrainian immigrant family too. I asked my mom if she had heard that slur your dad was talking about and she did know it too. Never heard that term before today, nobody ever talked about it.

    My great grandfather is buried in the grounds of the church. He was killed in 1944 when a B17 Flying Fortress crash landed just short of the runway at Great Ashfield Air Base. He was working one of the fields on a farm the family used to own. About 10 years ago I got the full air accident report from the USAF archives in San Francisco. A lot of Americans visit this church because of the memorials inside related to 385th bomber wing.

    Nice review of a bygone era of American cars. I was a child that in that year, and I remember how easy it was to just look at a car and know right away which make it was. Cars back then were very distinctive with their bodies. As you pointed out, the lack of safety features sadly made them serious injury or death trap cars, too. People wanted new body styles, which helped sell cars, and not safety features. Plymouth was a decent car for the money back then. Thank you.

    "so now we got a flooded engine" as he continues to pump the accelerator pedal.

    • @StumpyVanLife
      @StumpyVanLife 2 місяці тому

      @@hudsoninbury At the beginning of the video , after you have cranked for several seconds and pumped the accelerator several times you state "and now we have a flooded engine" , and then you pump the pedal several more times. The car does start which means it was not flooded after all , I just found it comical that you think its flooded and your answer is more gas.

      @@hudsoninbury It's all good, I hear you and know where you are coming from. Nice car by the way, I know this video is several years old. Do you still own it? I make videos too, and we don't always say exactly what we mean to say when the camera is rolling. So hat's off to you for taking the time to post a video. I was just poking fun at the situation. I have been a mechanic off an on since 1992 , and I have owned several classics and worked on several others so I know how finicky these old fuel systems and electrical systems can be.

    • @hudsoninbury
      @hudsoninbury 2 місяці тому

      thank you for the comment. - fair and reasonable points except for the claim ' amateurs ' - we have all spent a life time in construction which is why we are able to ignore, bend or disregard safety protocol on private construction projects. You seem to point out the obvious, which I accept but ignore the calculated risks based upon professional experience which often in many areas of life , trump legislative or pronounced procedures or practice. - thanks again for taking time to comment - Chris

    • @scottmaitland167
      @scottmaitland167 Місяць тому

      No you can’t ignore safety law. Read sections 2 and 3 of the health and safety at work act. It may be a private construction job, but you still have to comply with the Act, CDM Regs, LOLER, PPE regs, PUWER… There’s a reason the death rate in construction is so high… amateurs.

    My father, 1st Lieutenant Durwood Collier, was the bombardier of the 94th Bomb Group B-17G “Shady Lady,” and flew 30 missions against the Nazis. All of the crew survived their tour, but 2 members “re-upped” for a second tour, and were killed in aerial combat. He loved the English people, and the inhabitants of Bury St. Edmund, especially. He would be very happy to know that Rougham Field has been made into a museum, in honor of all his friends who died. Thank you for not forgetting their sacrifice. With great respect, Joseph Collier (his son)

      thank you for taking the time to comment on the video and I am pleased you enjoyed the video. -- There is still a number of people , including myself, who are not only aware but are gratefully appreciative of the service offered to the UK by young men and women from North America. I am in that position as my father was a Canadian soldier who during his six years fighting in Europe, found time to marry my English mother. --- Although most young people have no real idea of their immediate past, history will remember the tragic events endured by your fathers generation.

    Nice to put faces to the guys that made my life harder. So many questions as to why things were placed in spots.. For instance the boot lid open relay. Where my mercedes one is is in the passenger compartment for 100% access without power or a blown relay. Well if you guess it is in the engine compartment you would be normal and potentially correct but you would be wrong. Its inbthe absolutely worst possible spot .. in thebtrunk tucked behind the fuel tank. Of witch is another why question.. the tank covers the back seat so you definitely cant access the relay by going through the rear seat. Theres a fuking gas tank there. ... The fuel door is also a electric component and takes 12v to open. Guess where the harness is for that. Lol. Inside the rear fender in a spot where you should be able to get at be by fuk not without gutting the entire interior of the trunk. Now get in the drivers seat with your coffee. Put the cup in the drink holder that doesn't exist at all. .like not one in the car what so ever. Apparently jaguar dont have drink holders. The buttons on the dash and center consol make no sense as to placement. And i honestly think thease guys spend all the time in the pub and were drunk at the design table. Beautiful cars the look amazing and i love that part. But why the suspension like that. The rear brakes are inboard. The 4 springs on the rear. And two spring loaded death traps as frint suspension. To change the brakes you need to remove the entire rear end........to change brakes........ there is mineral oil in a hydrolc system and by fuk over the last 30 years the multiple owners thought they all knew better so be sure its not jaguar approved oil... The wires in the car make zero sense as to why so many. And splitting up things making 70 separate buttons onbthe dash for god sakes and all wired so its literally all wires back in there. They didn't understand the correct way to lay out a harness. Hence jags are notoriously bad for electric issues.. these guys did that. They did that to us ... lol fuk .. id love to shake there hands but with my free hand smack them in there mouths. And whybthe fuk would the climate control fans be a separate speed control per fan that if one goes the hole system shuts down .. lol. Drug smiokers is my thoughts. They must have been drunk or drugged out. Because lets be honest i have mercedes benz and that thing is a dream to work on. Its so straightforward its amazing. Its common sense and everything works one way. It will work and is engineering tonits fineest. I love the look of jaguar. And i own one its outside beside my two better built vehicles. My ford f350 that is just a truck but buit to last and work on. The mercedes and its blatantly the nicest vehicle. Jags looks are beautiful. But everything else falls way way behind in quality. Sure have real wood all you want but that wood only looks good. Nothing else. Mechanically jags kinda suck. Electrical they very much suck.
